Rainbows in the Midst of the Rain

One rainy, early evening I watched the raindrops being swept away by my windshield wipers as I was driving home from Prayer Meeting contemplating the blessings of time spent in prayer.  As I drove I looked up into the dusky evening sky filled with dark clouds.  There in front of me was the slightest of rainbows gracing the front of those dark ominous clouds.   I don’t ever remember a rainbow in the midst of the rain, though I am sure it has occurred at some point in my lifetime.

The gears of my mind began to turn and I thought there is a story in this unusual sight.  Life often brings problems, trials and tribulations, which can be likened to dark, rainy and stormy days.  Sometimes these rainy, stormy, cloudy days cause us to loose sight that the sun and the beautiful blue skies do lie just behind all the dark dreariness and turmoil before us.  During these dark seasons we often forget the promise of a rainbow after the rain and the promise of a new blue-sky day.  Here, before me, on this particular evening was the slightest of rainbows in the midst of the dark ominous clouds and the falling raindrops.  Just like the sun and the blue skies are behind those clouds, there is the promise of beautiful rainbows after the rain.  God’s promises to us are no different, they are there no matter the storms that life brings, laying behind and waiting to burst forth in our lives in God’s perfect timing.  God told Habakkuk “Write the vision and run with it for it shall surely come to pass.” (Habakkuk 2:2)  Meaning to take it to heart, don’t let go of it; bring it with you wherever you go.  God’s promises are “Yea and Amen;” they are true and He will bring His promises to pass in our lives, as we trust Him.

The storms of life try to cloud our vision so that we can’t see the promises of God coming true in our lives; so that we can’t see the hope that lies before us.  The night I saw the rainbow in the midst of the rain I thought, “How awesome is our God!?”  He is so wonderful to give us hope in the midst of the stormy seasons of our life.  I could have focused on the rain, the clouds, the darkness, or the dreariness but my eyes seemed to be drawn to the beauty of that ever so slight rainbow before my eyes.  This rainbow was just a small glimpse of the true beauty that was sure to come when the clouds finally disbursed and the rain stopped falling; it was as if God was softly speaking to my heart, “Michele, My promises are true though you can’t see because of the clouds.  Michele, I have a plan though life seems to be saying otherwise and the rain keeps falling.  Michele, I will bring my promises to pass even though it seems as if it won’t ever happen; that your skies will never be blue again.”

Life does bring trials, tribulation and troubles but God is always faithful in the midst.  He gives us hope.  It is His promises that we can hold on to in those times knowing that He is faithful.  So, “Write the vision and run with it.”  Even in the darkest and stormiest of times if we will lean on Him, He will give us hope and glimpses of the promises He has made to us.  This hope gives us the strength to hold on while we walk through difficult times.

Just as I took my focus off the rain, clouds, darkness and the dreariness and looked to the rainbow, we also have a choice to make during those troubled seasons.  Through prayer, praise and faith we must take our  focus off of the troubles and begin to place our focus on Him; to trust Him, to put our hand in His and walk with Him.  Remember that Peter when walked on water to Jesus it wasn’t until he took his focus off of Jesus and began to shift that focus to the wind, the storm and the waves that he began to sink.  Remember that even though Peter lost his focus for a time, Jesus was right there to lift Him up before he was totally engulfed in the waters surrounding him!  Jesus didn’t let Peter drown.  Even if you should get your focus off Jesus and begin to sink within the storms of life, He is right there to pick you up when you call upon Him!  He won’t let you drown.  He will be there to lift you up when call unto Him and trust Him.

We serve an awesome God who is ever faithful!  Yes, He gives us rainbows in the midst of the rain and He will be your Rainbow in the midst of the rain…  He is Merciful and Forgiving…  He is your Hope…  He is your Redeemer…  He is your King…  He is your Lord…  He is the Glory and the Lifter of your Head…  He  is the Lover of your Soul…   He is the Bright and Morning Star…  He is the Lamb of God…  He is the Lion of Judah…  He is King of Kings…  He is Lord of Lords…  He is…  He is… He is…
