F Faith and Fitness

Exercise, Faith, and Healing

There are so many benefits to exercising! Exercise affects our bodies physically, mentally, and spiritually. When you combine faith in God's miracle working power, and excercise3hard work in the gym, the outcome is astonishing! My client, Angie Day, tells how this has taken place in her life.

"My name is Angie Day and I have suffered with Asthma all of my life. I believe that there is a purpose for everything we go through. God’s word says in Ecclesiastes Ch. 3 vs. 1: To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. We may never understand some of the challenges we face in life but we need to share our struggles and trials to help others make it through.

excercise1It was not until about 20 years ago I had to start taking medicine for asthma but since then I have gone through periods of time when my breathing was so bad I would need to use three different inhalers, prednisone and other preventative medicines just to keep breathing. In 2013 my breathing continued to get progressively worse, but the small still voice inside of me told me that there was something more than just asthma affecting me. In addition to not being able to breathe, I lost my energy and began having unfamiliar heart palpitations. After many visits to different doctors it was finally determined I had four holes in the atrium of my heart and they were affecting the quality of my life. Doctors believed if I had the holes patched, the quality of my life would greatly improve. I underwent the procedure and it was successful but I still had to rely on the asthma medicines to keep my asthma under control. The holes in my heart had been there all of my life and were one of the reasons in addition to asthma that it was so hard for me to reach the physical goals I had set for myself many times in the past.

I’ve always lived an active lifestyle and wanted to be healthy. I’ve joined gyms and lost weight through diet but always gained the weight back after the diet ended or my asthma flared up. In January 2015 I started another diet and lost 30 pounds but still couldn’t breathe without inhalers and I knew if I didn’t change my habits andexcercise2 exercise I would gain the weight back so I decided to join KPF. I joined Kellye Personal Fitness in September of 2015 and immediately began seeing results and depending on my inhalers less and less. By January 2016 I decided to try and live without my inhalers and stop taking asthma medicine, altogether. Although I still have asthma, for three months I was able to live without 90% of the medicines I was previously taking. I now use my medicine only when I have a flare up of my asthma symptoms!!! My heart doctor, Dr. Matthew Wilson with St. Josephs and his staff could not believe the results I have achieved over the last year of my life.

God created us to do the work he has called us to do. I think sometimes we become mentally defeated because of the limitations given to us by man instead of relying on the one who created us in his image to be great and to do great things! I truly believe we must walk by faith and not by sight. Maybe God allowed me to face this trial so that he could strengthen my faith in him. I have never felt as good as I do now and I love the way I feel. Exercising has not only made me stronger but has given me mental clarity and contributes to the joy I feel in my heart. The joy of knowing God says in Phillipians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me”. My goal for the future is to keep pushing forward and to never give up. I have faith that through God, one day, I will be healed!"
