Set Your Fitness Goals

I am a goal setter.  When I set a goal and reach it, I set new ones!  My most recent goal that I reached was opening a gym.  I opened Kellye Personal Fitness in February of this year!  This was a goal I had set for myself a couple of years ago.  With God's guidance and favor on this endeavor it finally happened!  I had a determination to reach this goal and now I am enjoying training clients in my own gym. What is my next goal?  To franchise!!  This may take another couple of years...then again it may not!  But I will continue to work towards this goal!

One of the primary factors of a happy, fulfilled life is a strong foundation of personal achievement. Of all the joys life has to offer, nothing quite beats the self- affirming thrill of setting out for and attaining our heart’s desire.  There is a deep seated, instinctive need in the emotional make-up of human beings to chase after whatever makes them happiest – so much so that the founders of America placed the freedom to do just that as one of the basic and inalienable rights of all mankind – part of the definition of what it means to live a truly free and worthwhile life.  Each of the three main aspects of goal setting and achievement – choosing a goal, throwing ourselves after it and, finally, reaching success – has its own unique pleasure - the heart-stirring rush of setting out after something we’ve always wanted (or just discovered we want), the energizing pull of a finish line drawing ever nearer, and the giddy wave of satisfaction that fills us when we finally lay hands on our prize (and begin to eye the horizon for our signs of our next conquest). This cycle of desire, action and fulfillment creates a current of positive energy in our lives that helps us advance ever higher toward whatever distant pinnacle or success our journey through life holds in store for us. Without this energy flow, life can feel flat, dull and meaningless.

There are 5 things that are necessary when we are setting goals for ourselves.

Believe in yourself!

I cannot put enough emphasis on the fact you need to believe in yourself and in your abilities to achieve anything in life. Believing in yourself is the key to almost everything you will start. If you start a business, not only do you need to be in love with what you do, but you also need to believe in the fact that it can work. It’s the stepping stone to any foundation.

Think about the process to reach your goal.

Planning ahead is important, especially when you are trying to reach a specific goal. It’s very important to visualize each of the steps needed to reach your goals. Imagine yourself doing these steps, living each instant of them. This is a very easy way to plan ahead.  It also helps you not forget anything along the way. By visualizing the steps you can see what you need to do to reach your goals. When the time arrives and you are living those steps, you will probably have “déjà vu” and this comes from the fact you already imagined it. I usually do this before going to bed, which brings me to my third point.

Visualize your steps before going to bed.

Yes, visualizing each step before going to bed will not only help you reach your goals with less hurdles, it will also make you dream about it. I often dream about my goals.  This gives me practice in what I am about to do. Did you know when you sleep your brain doesn’t know the difference between reality and fiction? This explains why your dreams can feel so true. It also explains why a nightmare can feel so real. Once we understand this concept you can see all the advantages of dreaming properly.

Strive, fight and stay positive!

Your goals won’t happen overnight.  They also won’t happen without work. You will have to overcome many obstacles before you reach your desired goal. There are always people who will work against you or technical hurdles you will need to overcome. NEVER discourage yourself!  Always stay positive and focus on being a problem solver. Keep pushing and never discourage yourself even when you think everything is lost. No one has ever achieved anything without past failures or setbacks.  Try to stay positive.

Get backup, use your contacts and talk to people.

Don’t be shy to talk to people about your new goals and how you plan to achieve them. Other people’s insight can be very important.  A teacher once told me that on a construction they build new trucks and tools for each new construction? The answer is NO. The same concept applies to our life and experiences.  You can use other peoples experiences to learn quicker and get by some of the steps.  This can be true on tangibles goals like setting up a business, going back to school.  Getting help is not only smart and quicker, but it will also show your friends and family that you want to learn and achieve your goals.

Look to the future!  God has a "hope and a plan" for you!  He wants you to set goals and achieve them!  He places these goals and passions in your heart for a reason!

Jeremiah 29:11..... For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
