What is Your Label?

You are not labeled by your past. Labels can be difficult to shed, because they can become our identity. A label is a "soul-tattoo" that is ingrained deep in our hearts, so much so that it determines how we see ourselves. And how we see ourselves determines how we live. Negative labels are thieves that steal your destiny and imprison you in a life that is less than mediocre. The "life giving" labels that God wants to give to you gives you permission to expect epic things for your life!

I have to be honest, the reason I'm writing this column is because this is something that God has dealt with me on recently.  For years I have held back and not given everything in my life 100% of myself because of the "labels" I had placed on myself....because of the way I saw myself.  God needed for me to change that and live according to His label for me!  My family, my friends, my gym, my clients, my ministry....all deserves 110% of Kellye!  God has placed all of these things and people in my life so that I can be His light and voice to them.  He has placed my gym, my career/ministry in my life to reach people and to be His hands and feet in their lives.  He needs for me to give it 110%!

Because of our past failures, sometimes we may find it hard to move forward in life.  Or maybe our past failures still haunt us from time to time, preventing us from being totally free to move in God's purpose and plan for our life.  Do any of these scenarios sound familiar?  Has unforgiveness toward your spouse grown into deep resentment?  Maybe because of this you let others catch your eye...you flirt with having your needs met outside of your marriage....looking to fill a need that you feel you aren't getting from your marriage.  Or maybe you had your dream job, but lost it because of insecurity.  Instead of getting help when you were in over your head, you unsuccessfully tried to cover up your mistakes by lying.  By the time your mistakes were found out, too many people were hurt and the company damaged.  Maybe you were a pastor of a thriving, dynamic church, but you have a secret.  You are addicted to pornography, or another sinful behavior, and you've lost it all because of your lack of self control.  Or it may be something that is not quite as extreme.  Maybe you've carried unforgiveness and hurt in your heart toward another....maybe a family member or a friend.  Maybe you smoke cigarettes and you feel this is damaging your health and your witness.  It could be that you have issues with anger and you find that you often hurt others because of it.  Whatever your circumstances, I'm sure you've experienced failure.  But one of the most limiting things you can do is see yourself as a failure.  Failure doesn't have to define you.  I wonder how many people live tortured lives because of past failures?  The failure in their past steals their today.  But, what if your greatest failure became the biggest turning point in your life?

The "name" or "label" you embrace is the name you will live by.  What name do you answer to?  Divorced?  Molested?  Abandoned?  Fatherless?  Ugly?  Fearful?  Cheater?  Adulterer?  Liar?  Bitter?  Dishonest?  God likes to give people new names.  In God's way of doing things, He redeems our failures and out of the burning ashes can arise a man or woman who is ready to transform the world.  When we seek God to give us a new "name" or "label", our failure becomes a platform that catapults you into limitless life.  Your failure is not the end of you.  In God's way of doing things, your failure becomes the foundation for your future success and future faithfulness for His glory, your joy, and the benefit of this broken world.  God wants to get rid of the labels of failure you have placed on your soul.  When God removes deep, ingrained labels from our hearts, it hurts.  But it's a good hurt, a hurt that heals us  Like recovery from a major surgery, there is a season of soreness in our souls.  But with each passing day, not only do we regain strength, we regain it from a source beyond us....from God Himself.  You are ready to be and do everything that God has created you to be and do if you allow Him to remove these labels of failure and replace them with His life giving labels.  All you have to do is ask for His help!
