Find Your Purpose

Everyone in this world likes to feel they have purpose. Everyone has an instinctual desire to know what their purpose is.  That’s the way God created us.  He created us to want to find that purpose and operate in it.  So many people don’t pursue their true purpose or even think about it.  They live out their days, weeks, months trying to fill a void that they aren’t even aware of or recognize.  God creates a hunger within us to know our purpose.  So many people aren’t even aware that what they are searching to fulfill in their lives....what’s their true purpose.

Every single person has been placed on this earth by God, to fulfill a purpose.  He has a unique plan for every individual.  And I can assure you, that although finding that purpose is self fulfilling and creates a prosperous and wonderful life, that purpose is not about ourselves.  Yes it will require hard work, discipline, and constant attention but it brings about a better life!  That purpose is about ultimately being instruments for God.  Sadly, most people are so self focused on what makes them feel good, what’s in it for them, what is going to help them avoid hardships, that they can’t see outside of that.  Or some people just don’t care at all either way.  They accept “the cards they’ve been dealt”, and live their lives going through the motions.....accepting whatever life throws their way.

I think there are steps to finding your ultimate purpose that God has for you.

First, I think you have to recognize that you DO have a God appointed purpose.  You are unique to this world.  You have something to offer that no one else has.  Only you.  And this world needs that.  Whatever it is.  Everyone’s gifts, talents, and abilities are different.  And yours can and will be exactly what some other people in this world need.  People need you and what you have to offer...whether it is your children, your family, friends, or people you don’t even know yet!

Second, you have to determine to discover your purpose. You are never too old to pursue your purpose.  You are never too old to implement your purpose.  It is never too late to enhance and “better” your action and how you are operating in your purpose if you have already discovered what God’s true purpose for you is!

Thirdly, be creative with your purpose and how you can impact the lives of others with your purpose.  That comes with prayer, and asking God to guide you and open doors for you to use your purpose and ALWAYS striving to implement your purpose.  It means always searching for ways and opportunities to be a positive impact.

Everyone has a different purpose.  Some are called into ministry.  And their purpose is not hard to figure out! But it can be confusing to figure out how to use  your purpose to impact the lives of others if you are a bus driver, a construction worker, a business owner, a waitress, a banker, a photographer, an event coordinator, a news get the point.  All it requires from you is a willingness to allow what you do to impact others and begin to look for ways to allow what you’re doing to positively impact others.  And again, prayer.  God will show you how, guide you, and provide open doors and opportunities if you ask Him.  No matter what you are doing in life, you can have a positive impact on everyone around you.

If you are still searching and you don’t yet know what your purpose and plan for your life is, begin to pray and seek God about it.  What are your interests?  Your passions?  Your skills? Your abilities and talents?  Start looking there in those places.

For me personally, years ago I was on a completely different career path than I’m on right now, working in the dental industry.  After a period of time, I stopped working and became a stay at home mom for 17 years. When my 4 daughters were all in school, I became restless with my days.  I am not a couch potato or enjoy being stuck at home all day...and was not satisfied with just cleaning the house, doing laundry etc, day in and day out.  Although I was still raising my daughters, I felt I was fading, that my purpose was fading as they got older.  I began to pray about what God would have me to do.  To make a long story short, God began to bring new interests into my life, which I became passionate about.  That led me to pursuing becoming a personal trainer, which eventually led to me becoming a business/gym owner.  And now for the last 10 years I have been able to use this avenue (purpose) to impact others on a daily basis!  And it is so very fulfilling!  I am completely passionate about it and God has blessed this path for me!

You never know where it will lead when you start to really pursue your purpose!  You never know how it can and will change where you are in life.  You may not make a career change (or you might!), but when you start to fully discover, submit to, and operate in your purpose, it is very powerful and life changing!  For you and everyone around you!  If you feel you have discovered and are operating in your purpose, pray that God will open more and more doors for you!  Never, ever become satisfied with where you are!  You can always do MORE!

Here’s to a purpose filled life!
