True and Ultimate Joy

Joy is a deep feeling of peace that many people desire but do not understand fully how to get.

Many believe that one of the effects of joy is being able to live a care-free life. Some say joy is found in having solid relationships. Still others express that joy is simply enjoying the here and now with no concern for the future. Because many do not understand what true joy means, they end up seeking it in the wrong ways. Many believe that being rich will cause them to have true joy, so they go after money. Others focus on finding a good husband or wife who they believe will bring them joy. Married couples look forward to having children. Others focus on acquiring material possessions. But all of these efforts to find joy fall flat.

With so many divorces, finding the “right” partner is obviously not the way to true joy. Children eventually grow up, and material things don’t last. True and lasting joy cannot be found in other things or other people.

According to the Bible, true joy can be found in three ways. First, true joy is found in having a real relationship with the Almighty Creator of the Universe through Jesus Christ. This alone brings true peace that the world and material things cannot give.

Secondly, true joy is found in learning how to be content with the things that we have and the situations that we find ourselves in. Constant worrying is not the way to true joy.

Thirdly, having ultimate joy in this world rests in the hope of heaven where we can spend eternity in the presence of God. This world cannot provide true joy.

True joy is found in having a personal relationship with God, so that one can be at peace with himself, his environment, and his future.
