Tired of Pursuing?

Sometimes I get tired. I just get so tired. Tired of seeking the next thing. However, I thank God that's how He made me. I hear people talking about how ambitious they are, and I hear them question the never-ending pursuit of their goals; they wonder if they please God when they are.

I honestly can’t answer whether God is pleased with those of us who are always pursuing the next thing. I would like to think He is because He made us that way. I think that desire to achieve more is in all of us; it’s just that some will move forward trying and others will sit and watch. I do think God is pleased with us as long as our motives are towards Him. If we seek worldly gain just to get more material stuff, our hearts are not right; therefore, we may not be blessed. Again, I don’t know, and I don’t think God is petty like that. I don’t think He will take it out on us when we are not in His perfect will. I do believe that He will allow things to happen that may redirect us back to Him though.

Do you get wrapped up in guilt because you think your pursuits are not in God’s will? Well, ask Him. If you find that your goals are not aligned with God's plans, ask the Holy Spirit to redirect you. I do all the time. I pray Lord, Holy Spirit, help me be content if I don’t achieve another single thing because I have been so blessed with favor. I find myself praying that one prayer over and over. You see, one minute I think I have it all under control but the next, I am right back on that wheel going after the next thing.

I refer to people like you and me as Type A personalities. We cannot stand or sit still very long. Goal achievement is in our blood. We are never satisfied with where we are. God bless us. If we are not competing physically with someone, we are competing against our very best. I believe that we should be content in whatever state we find ourselves in, but I also think that God himself, set goals. He was a planner and a goal achiever too. In the Bible, we find that God clearly planned the universe and He planned a way to bring you and I back to Him through Jesus.

The Bible says “a man plans his ways, but God directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9). I think it’s okay to pursue. Along the way, make sure you are checking in with God. Make sure what you are doing is in line with what He wants you to do. Make sure you are in lock-step with Him. I think if you do, your plans will succeed. (Proverbs 16:3).

Take all of your energy and go for it. Today is yours; tomorrow isn't promised, so give life all you got right now.
