The Unexpected Blessing

Though the man remained nameless and faceless and I couldn’t thank him, my thoughts immediately turned to God and I thanked Him for the man in front of me and the blessing I had received. I thought how like God this man’s act of kindness was and, according to the cashier, is every day. He wasn’t driving a Rolls Royce or anything fancy that spoke of money. Yet every day, he pays for the meals of several cars behind him; digging into his own pocket, a selfless act on behalf of people he doesn’t know a thing about.

This reminds me that God is our heavenly Father. He also is faceless yet He is always touching our lives in tangible ways. He is that wonderful Father giving good things to His children. He is our protector, comforter, teacher, provider, healer and He bestows wonderful gifts. The difference between the “McDonald’s” man and God is that that our Father knows each of us inside and out. He is intimately acquainted with each and every one of us and even in the midst of our failures He is still good to us every single day. Just as the “McDonald’s” man blesses people on a daily basis our Father pours out His blessings over and over every single day. Often we miss the blessings because we don’t look for the signs but then out of the blue, a blessing, something small, something big, will flow our way and make our day, week or year. The blessings He has bestowed upon us can even last a lifetime.

Every good and perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,
with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.” James 1:17

He is the one and only perfect Father. Because of Jesus Christ, His sacrifice and our acceptance of His free gift of salvation we are adopted as children of God. Through our adoption, God becomes our Abba (Abba Father). The word Abba means “daddy” in Aramaic. The term signifies a close, trusting and intimate relationship between a child and his/her father. God loves us with an everlasting love and as God’s children we have acceptance, redemption, forgiveness of sins, wisdom, favor, protection, security and purpose; unending blessings.

for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have
believed that I came forth from the Father.” John 16:17
