F Fic, Non-fic

Star of Bethlehem

by Marianne Lyon

To see

mom’s majestic grin

I but seven, sing sweet solo

midnight Christmas Mass

To wonder

at Bethlehem’s mighty

crack of light leaking

through roof of snow-drifted stable

To know

back then I am a wanderer

will navigate deep

currents of songs

a lifetime with children

To traverse

corn fields, rugged mountains

worlds of labyrinths

westward, eastward

still proceeding, searching

for perfect light

To feel

students’ joyful survival-kit

smiles, reliable as tides

To climb

oasis podium

one more time

call forth vulnerable voices

fragrant sounds
