P Pamela's Pondering

The Search for Wholesome Entertainment

Is it just me, or have you noticed a rise in Christian/Inspirational/Clean/Wholesome television shows and movies?

This trend got me to pondering and you know what I think?

I think we’ve evolved from fighting our way through life into loving our way through.

Consider a moment the sheer number of Hallmark movies, heck there are three Hallmark Channels! There’s the Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Movies and Mysteries and Hallmark Drama, each of which show a huge variety of wholesome entertainment.

Stations like UPtv and Insp. air a variety of wholesome, and classic, shows like Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons. ME Tv takes us back to Andy Griffith and other lovable, funny shows that teach us a lesson in building character and in loving one another.

Movies like Miracles from Heaven, War Room, Courageous and Breakthrough fill us with faith and passion in the supernatural love of God and His power to heal and make whole.

Numerous books and magazines (print and online) – like this one encourage us to live our best and highest life. There’s even a Christian line of romances called Love Inspired.

When you’ve been on a spiritual quest as long as I have, you come to realize that love, peace and joy go a lot further in solving life’s challenges than anger, strife and frustration.

Even the Bible teaches us that out of the three virtues of faith, hope and love, love is the greatest (1 Corinthians 13:13) and that a gentle answer turns away wrath but harsh words stir up anger (Proverbs 15:1). It also reminds us to seek and pursue peace (Psalm 34:14, 2 Timothy 2:22 and 1 Peter 3:11).

Now that’s not saying I’m perfect. Trust me when I say, I still lose my temper, fret and worry or doubt in the simple goodness of God, myself or my fellow man. But for the most part, having and expressing an attitude of love, peace, joy and happiness is how I choose to live.

If you look back over the years from those simple times where correction was tempered with love and forgiveness in our books and movies, through the decades of blatant exposure to the ugliest and darkest of man’s capabilities, I think it’s a good thing we’re returning back to the heart of who we are and where we come from on a spiritual level – and that’s pure love.

Something to think about!
