Faithfulness to God

Faithfulness to God in a life that is broken reminds me of Job. He lost everything except his life. He lost his children, all his possessions and his health. All that he was left with was physical suffering, and a wife who was hurt and bitter. His wife told Job "curse God and die." His three friends told him that all the atrocities that were happening in his life must be because he had sinned against God. Life had turned bitter for Job. In all of this, Job stayed faithful, he did not sin against God. Job said "Though He slay me, yet, I will trust in Him" [Job 13:15a] and "I know my Redeemer lives!" [Job 19:25a]

It was God who allowed Satan to attack Job. God knew that Job loved Him but Satan thought the only reason Job loved and served God was because God was good to Job and had put a hedge of protection about Job. But God knew exactly what was in Job’s heart and He equipped him to walk through what he was going to face. Job continued to trust God in the midst of his circumstances.

Perhaps you have found yourself in a situation similar to Job's. Life has turned bitter for you. You are hurt and angry and do not understand why this has happened in your life. You may even wonder "I have served God all my life and now I am alone and abandoned." Remember the enemy of your soul is a liar. He wants you to give up on and quit trusting God. Satan wants you to take your eyes off of God and place them on the circumstances you are facing. Remember, God is still God no matter what circumstances may tell you. That is why we must trust His Word to us and not just look at circumstances. A wonderful story representing this is when Jesus told Peter to come to Him on the water. Peter trusted Jesus and took Him at his word. In obedience Peter stepped out of the boat and began to walk on the water just as he was bid. Somewhere between the boat and Jesus Peter took his eyes off of Jesus and began to look at the waves and the wind. That is when he began to sink. You can't “see” wind but you can hear the wind! Peter was listening to the lie of the circumstances around him. Jesus was right there to lift Peter from the water when Peter cried out to Jesus. God's Word is truth but circumstances will lie to us.

Circumstances change and fluctuate. Circumstances will never be proof of God's love toward you or against you. God's love for you is found in Jesus Christ, the beloved Son He sent to die for you. If you give up on God, you have nothing and you gain nothing. God is your hope in this life and in the eternal life that follows.. Don't give up! Don't quit! There is no good thing apart from God. There is no hope apart from God. We must run the race with endurance to inherit the crown.

God has not abandoned you. He loves you. Take your eyes off the circumstances and trust your Redeemer! He has equipped you to walk through what you are going through. He will bring you through if you will trust Him. Be like Job, walk in faithfulness and trust toward God. Just as in Job’s life there are times He allows trials and tribulation to come into our lives but it is not meant to hurt us. He causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. God’s highest purpose in our lives is that we are conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.

It is through the hard places in life that we grow closer to God in our walk. It is in those places that we learn to know this God we serve and love. It is in those same hard places that He builds His character in us. How do we come through? We hold onto His Word and trust that God has our best interest in His heart. He loves us and has designed what we walk through to do a greater work in our lives. We must be faithful to obey Him even when we do not understand all we are walking through. Will we be perfect in all that we say and do? No, of course not, but we must trust and hold onto what His word says to us. We may fail and fall many times but God is always there to encourage and to help us go on no matter how long it takes. He will bring us through victoriously in whatever trial we face.

           Love in Christ, Michele

Michele LeDoux Abshire ~ June 2005

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:28-39
