Filtered through Fingers of Love

When I see sunshine spilling through the clouds on a cloudy day with the rays filtering through I am reminded of something I heard Kay Arthur say years ago...  "Everything allowed by God in our lives is filtered through fingers of love."  Romans 8:28 tells us, "All things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose."  I think about the beauty of these scenes.  I am taken aback by the wonderful, glorious beauty and cannot take my eyes off the breathtaking scene before me.  I can almost hear that soft still voice in my mind bringing peace to my very soul regarding my situation, "My beloved, this too is filtered through My fingers of love."

Clouds are a wonderful picture of God's creation speaking to us about our great and awesome God.  Sometimes clouds are beautiful, billowy masses of fluff.  Other times clouds are ominous, thick and dark; blocking out most of the light and the brightness of the sun.  Regardless of whether clouds are beautiful or ominous they still block the light.  Though the clouds cover the sky, sunshine always seems to find its way through even the smallest of cracks.  Often the sun outlines clouds with brilliant majesty and spills forth as if kissing the earth with its beauty and warmth.

In our lives and situations it is often much the same.  Life is filled with "clouds" of all shades, shapes and sizes.  Dark and ominous circumstances in life cloud our vision and dampen our hope.  These circumstances cause us to not see that God is there and that His love is continually working in our lives and situations.  It is in these times that we must remember that no matter what "cloud" comes in our lives God is still bringing His light into our situation.  We must remember God is still there just as the sun is there behind the clouds in the sky.  We must remember that He is faithful just as the sun is faithful to come up every morning and set every night.  We must remember that He can cause any situation to bring forth beauty if we will let Him shine through that situation and our lives.  In Ecclesiastes 3:11a the Bible says, “He hath made everything beautiful in its time.”  And He will; He is our Faithful God and He keeps His word; if we will just trust Him to work His glory in our dark ominous circumstances.

Clouds aren’t all bad; they bring covering, protection and shade from a sometimes scorching sun.  This reminds me of how Jesus covers us with His blood and through Him we can come to our Holy God; we can now enter into the Holy of Holies through the Blood of the Lamb.  Jesus is our “cloud,” our covering.  It is interesting to note that the cloud is where God set the rainbow.  His great symbol of covenant; Genesis 9:13, 16 reads: “I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.  And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.”   Our promise of hope is in Jesus.  God looked upon the bow in the cloud and He remembered His covenant, just as He sees you through the precious blood of Jesus, washed, cleansed and forgiven.  Throughout the Bible we read that the Lord came in the form of a “pillar of a cloud” and that He and/or His glory was in the cloud.  His glory is in Jesus.  Psalms 99:7a tells us, “He spoke unto them in the cloudy pillar” and in Matthew 17:5 [echoed in Mark 9:7, Luke 9:35] we read that God announced His Son through a cloud “a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”   When Jesus comes back, “they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory” Matthew 24:30 [echoed in Matthew 26:64 and Mark 14:62].  Sometimes we hear God’s voice the clearest when we are going through those dark and cloudy times because we learn to know, trust and depend upon Him.

The glory of the Lord is seen in all of His creation to this very day.  God is still speaking through the clouds of life because He is the same yesterday, today and forever.  God is still in control.  He is ever present even in the cloudy, dark times of our lives and He will speak to us in those situations.  God will bring us to the other side safely.  We will find that as we allow, He will bring us through the dark times stronger and more like Jesus than before because we trusted and leaned on Him.  His desire for us is that we become more and more like Jesus.  God often uses those cloudy, dark times to work in our hearts.  If we never go through difficult times, would we need to rely on Him?  Would we need to depend upon Him?  God desires a relationship with us.  Sometimes He uses those cloudy, dark times to gently prod us in His direction.  Will we run to God?  Will we trust Him?  Will we cry out to God?  Will we allow Him to change us?

There will always be clouds in the sky.  In our lives there will always be trials and tribulations; it is inevitable.  Sometimes those cloudy and dark days will bring rain.  Sometimes the days of clouds and rain seem never ending but always remember “After the Rain, Rainbows.”  Sometimes it seems that the trials of life go on and on, never ending; but, always remember that just as the rain brings refreshing and rejuvenation to the earth and rainbows in the sky, so will God bring forth refreshing, rejuvenation, beauty and promises in your life’s situations if you will trust Him.  Psalms 84:11 says, “For Jehovah God is a sun and a shield: Jehovah will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.”  There is always hope because God is forever faithful and is continually working for our good.  Everything allowed in your life has been filtered through His fingers of love.  Nothing can touch you without His permission.  If He has allowed a “cloud” in your life then it is for your good.  He desires only the best in your life and you are very special to Him.  He loves you with an everlasting love.  He will never leave you nor forsake you.  You are in His care and all things allowed in your life are filtered through His great love for you…
