P Power of Positive Faith

When You Can't Hear From God

I am sure at some point in your life you have prayed and prayed and God was silent.  I am certain that like me, you have experienced times of deep desperation and needed to just feel Him near, but for some reason, He didn’t allow His presence to be felt.  So, you went to your Bible, searching for something and hoping that maybe He would speak to you through the scriptures, and yet, nothing.  You felt all alone, lost, lonely, hurt and confused.  You thought that He promised you that He would never leave you; that He would always be there for you no matter what. Yet, you can’t “feel” Him near.

I have news for you, just because you can’t feel Him does not mean that He has left you.  He may be simply sitting back watching.  He may be watching and waiting, to see if you have grown a little more. He may be waiting to see if this time, you will pass the test.  What is the test?  The Faith Test. This time, will you have faith in Him whether you “feel” Him near or not.  Will you just trust and have faith that He is there even if you can’t sense His presence.

You see, at some point, we have to grow up.  The Bible speaks of when we are babies, we are fed with milk, but at some point we are weaned off of milk.  Just like a baby, as we grow, we need more than milk to give us the nourishment that will sustain us.  The same is true in our spiritual growth. We can’t survive on Sunday morning church services only; we need more and that “more” should be consumed daily just like real food.

I think the reason people become fearful when they can’t feel God’s presence is because they don’t know the character of God. They haven’t learned of how He does things.  When you learn about God, you will know not to worry when you can’t sense His presence.  This assurance comes only through a developed relationship with Him.

If you ever had a child, when that child was a baby, yes he or she may have cried in despair when it could not sense your presence, as they grew up, they didn’t fear if they could not see you in their visual sight. They trusted that you were there somewhere and if they needed you, you would show up.  I think it’s the same with God. He may be silent, he may not be in our sight, but if we need Him, He will show up.

I know we need Him always, but sometimes He needs us to show that we have faith in His promises. We don’t need to fear. We don’t need to fret. We don’t need to be stressed out or freaked out; we just need to have faith.

The Bible says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1). We don’t need to always see to know.  We just need to know that Jesus cares, He promised and He always keeps His promises and He cannot lie. Isn’t that enough? It is for me.

I tell you what to do when He seems distant. Just sit still and know that He is God. He may not show up when you want Him, but He is always right on time.
