P Power of Positive Faith

Am I Living? Or Am I Living!

I have always loved life! I don’t know about you, but as each year passes, I sit and reflect on the previous year. I think and ask myself, “Am I really living the life I want? Or am I living a life controlled by fear and defeat?

Do you do the same? Do you reflect on the previous year? If you don’t, I wish you would. I don’t want you to sit and think of how bad things were either. I want you to simply reflect on every thing that happened, the good and the not so good. Mostly on the great things that made life wonderful! Think of how blessed you are now and how you overcame things that seemed impossible! Now, even with the not so good, you are still blessed. Let me tell you why. You are still here and still standing. You were not destroyed, you were not defeated, you were able to overcome those challenges.

I don’t know what kind of year you experienced, love, laughter, joy, peace or exhilaration. Maybe you experienced loss, tragedy, hurt, pain or depression. Maybe you experienced both.  Whatever you faced in 2014,  is done.  I won’t say that everything was God’s will; I don’t know that. But I will say that whatever happened, God’s grace was sufficient.  His grace still is.

I had friends lose parents, lose grandparents and some lost their very best friends. I have been there. I have friends who struggled, fought and stood up against cancer and other diseases. I have had friends who experienced the joys of having their first child or their 5th, and those who had the pleasure of marrying or marrying off one of their children; those who had kids graduate from college and those who, themselves, graduated. What a year!

The scripture I am going to focus on as we start the new year is one I learned more than 30 years ago, Joshua 1:9:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened or dismayed. The Lord, your God, will be with you where ever you go.”

Yes, that’s it. I can trust God. You can too. We may not understand Him, but we can trust Him. When we experience life, it is easy to focus on all the bad things. When we sit down to reflect, our minds automatically want to take us back to all the horrible stuff we experienced. We have to force our minds to the good, pure, honest, and noble things.  We have to be intentional about focusing on the good and the good is in Christ Jesus.

Focus on Him when you sit down to reflect this year. Ask Him to direct your thoughts and tell Him that you hurt. Tell Him you are angry. Tell Him that you are Happy to be alive. Tell Him that you don’t understand why some things happened. Remember to tell Him that you want Him to take your burdens, your negative thoughts and change them so that they don’t become who you are and then wait and watch Him do it for you.

My desire for all of us as we enter this New Year, is to develop our faith. I pray that we will trust God to help us to be more positive than negative; to be more loving in our words and actions; to stop being devisive and hateful, and to truly be the people God has called us to be---those who love God and love our neighbors.

I know that we will face stuff in 2015, just like we do every year. But face it differently this year. Face it with the attitude that God is in control. No matter what you face, be strong and courageous. No matter what you face, remember to think on the things that are pure, honest, noble and true. When you do, watch how God transforms you into a person with joy, hope and positive faith in your life.
