P Power of Positive Faith

Ask Yourself...

I remember when I was so ill back in 2011. I know I was miserable, sometimes I felt defeated, was in a lot of pain and some days would cry my eyes out, asking God why.  I prayed a lot during that time. I relied on the strength of my husband and friends, but mostly my husband.  I hated being sick and many days, I just didn’t know what to do.

I would like to think that I had faith that would move mountains. I want to say that I was strong and determined, but some days were challenging.  I know I went through a lot of emotional turmoil during that time, but I don’t think that I ever lost hope. I know at times I felt weak, but I was always determined to feel better and to gain my strength.

While sick, I would sit and get sad that I could not workout the way I used to do.   When I gained weight, I would be so focused on that issue that my doctor would ask me if I wanted to get well or lose weight. I recall all the emotional difficulties.  The minute I began to feel a little better, I would put on my workout clothes and just begin to walk. The first time I walked from my house just about a half-mile or less to the park, I barely made it there. Prior to that time, I could do 3 step classes in a row without any problem.

What’s my point? Here’s the point. I went through some trying times. I know others who have gone through trying times too. I have one girlfriend who went through a health issue, said, I just have to accept this is my new normal, and went on to run marathons! I have another who lives in constant pain, yet she never ceases to amaze me with her strength and resolve to “just do it”.

I watch the strength of these women. They are examples of women who demonstrate positive faith.  They don’t stand still, sit down, withdraw from life because stuff has happened; neither do I! I am one of them.  We know that life may not be perfect, but this is the life God has allowed for the moment and regardless of what is happening, it is still a great life.  It’s great if God heals us and it’s great if He doesn’t. He loves us and that’s the important part.  We don’t intend to sit back and let life pass us by.

If you are the kind of person that find yourself wallowing in self-pity and refuse to stop doing so, ask yourself why. If you take all of your frustrations out on others because you “don’t feel well” ask yourself why. If you are upset because your life has changed and it won’t change back, just accept that and adjust to your new normal.  Make the most of your life.

Whether we like talking about it or not, our time on this earth is short. The Bible says, “life is like a vapor.”

“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”

James 4:14.

Once you begin to understand this one thing, your way of treating yourself and others around you will transform.  Let God do that for you. Let Him pull out that root of self-pity and sadness and replace it with a seed of hope. He is willing to do that for you, but you must be willing to acknowledge that and more importantly, accept His help. He can transform you. He can change a negative, defeatist attitude to one of positive faith. I have seen Him do it many time…
