I love movies which show the power of faith and the human spirit to overcome whatever difficulties and tragedy life throws at you. When the Game Stands tall is one of those.

Based on the true story of De La Salle High School in Concord, California, the movie depicts the football team’s 1992 – 2003 winning streak of 151 games. A Christian school, the team prayed and shared testimonies of courage and faith in God, in each other, and in the brotherhood often seen in and among players of all sports.

Jim Caviezel is excellent in his portrayal of CoachBob Ladouceur who encouraged his team to show up every week with a perfect effort. “You don’t have to be perfect,” he assures. “Just make a perfect effort.”

A lesson we’d all do well to learn and implement.

Whether you’re a football fan or not, this is a great family movie.
