I train those who want to lose weight, those who are preparing for events and competitions, those who want to reverse or resolve health issues, those who have disabilities.....the clients that I train cover a large spectrum!  It is so fulfilling to see my clients reach goals, lose the weight they want to lose, become stronger, overcome obstacles, overcome illnesses....become better in every way!  One particular client that I train has lupus.  She has trained with me for 8 months.  She has progressed tremendously in her strength and endurance since she has been training with me, but more importantly she has kept her illness under control with minimal problems because of her dedication to exercise and a healthy lifestyle!  So many people see their physical disabilities and health issues as a reason why they cannot exercise.  But, the fact of the matter is, there is nothing that can stop you from exercising!  There is ALWAYS SOMETHING that you can do!  I know this for a fact because of the clients that I train that have many health issues and disabilities!  But, Kim Shirah is not one of these people!  She hasn't let lupus stop her!  She is doing all that she can to be better!  Here is her story in her words.....

"People have said to me “you don’t look sick” but the reality is; I have Lupus.  Lupus is one of those diseases that is hard to explain.  I could get into the science of it, but  people just want to know how it affects me.  I happen to be one of the lucky ones because I’m not typical.  Sure I’ve had a few rough spots, several hospital stays, a bit of joint pain here and there to be exact, but all-in-all; I don’t have it that bad.  I was diagnosed 10 years ago and there are some days, I forget I even have it.  I have never been one to try and “cure” myself by consuming a certain diet, taking whatever supplement, or following some fitness program but I always felt like I should be doing something to take care of myself.  After all, I do have a disease!  Until recently, I never really did anything about it.  I was 39 years old and thinking about my next birthday.  Wow, 40 years old!  Funny how the phrase “Fit at 40” kept popping into my mind.  I have no idea where it came from or why it was in my brain, I just kept hearing it.  This set me on the path to make that phrase become a reality.  I’ve exercised and dieted to some degree all of my life but this time I took it a bit more seriously.  I started watching what I ate and joined a gym.  I lost some weight, was getting stronger, things were going good but I knew I could accomplish more. So I trained and completed a triathlon sprint, and it felt great!  It wasn’t long, though, before my disease stepped in and I ended up with blood clots in my lungs.  I was highly discouraged.  All I could think about was all the effort I had put into training and the accomplishments I had made.  All of that was lost. Time moved on and I got back on my feet.  Then my sister told me about Kelley Personal Fitness.  I didn’t think there was any way I could do the exercises she was describing.  I gathered enough courage to go to one of the classes; my life hasn’t been the same since.  How I struggled the first day, the first week, the first month, but I kept going and I’ve never felt stronger or more confident in my life.  Every workout is tough but I’m addicted to the feeling I get afterwards when I realize what I’ve just done!  Never in my life did I think my body was capable of such things.  So, yes, I have a disease, but I have to give credit where credit is due.  I fully believe that exercise has kept my disease from interfering with and making my life worse!  “Fit at 40” is the phrase that started me on this journey toward better health, but “Fit at any age” is my new motto!"

If Kim can do it, so can you!  There is nothing that ails you that can stop you from exercising to some degree!  You may not be able to walk into a gym and do a workout routine that the next person can do, but there is always something you can do!  Once you start at YOUR level, you become stronger and able to do more and more!  I encourage you to find a trainer or a coach who is willing to work with you no matter what health issue you may have, and a trainer or a coach who is knowledgeable about the needs of the human body and the abilities your body has to "heal itself" with the right diet and exercise.  This is how God created our bodies!  The Word encourages us to exercise and eat a healthy diet!!  Let Kim's story inspire you to do more!
