About the Book

Shelby Kincaid is ready to move on from her grief. With high hopes for the future, she longs to purchase her family's ancestral homestead so she can raise her young daughters in the only place she ever truly belonged. She plans to transform the abandoned house into the perfect home of her memories. But she'll have her work cut out for her.

AJ Sullivan never wanted the homestead. Inherited as a punishment from his grandfather, it has sat empty for fifteen years and fallen into ruin. He's glad to finally unload it. But a clean break isn't possible when he can't get the young widow Shelby off his mind.

Welcome to Misty Willow, a place that will have as great a hold over the reader as it does over its inhabitants. With writing that evokes a strong sense of place and personal history, Johnnie Alexander deftly explores the ties that bind us to home--and the irresistible forces that draw us to each other.

This is the first novel by Johnnie Alexander I've had the chance to read, and I enjoyed
every page!  I thought I was getting a good romantic tale, but Johnnie included romance, suspense,
humor and faith, and she delivered with realistic characters who will remain in your heart long after the story ends.

Shelby Kinkaid never expected to be a young widow with two daughters.  When her current life leaves her feeling adrift, Shelby yearns for the place of her childhood.  But Misty Willow has been left in the care of AJ Sullivan, and care he did not.

Thankfully, he agrees to allow Shelby to take up residence in her grandparents' old homestead, and the renovations begin with a hilarious trip into the attic (trust me--it's great!).  Soon the Kinkaid women: Shelby, six-year-old Elizabeth and 3-year-old Tabitha are growing attached to both the home Shelby grew up in...

...And AJ's dog, Lila.

I believe the girls grew very fond of Lila's owner as well!   Can Shelby risk her heart with a man she swore would be her mortal enemy?  Can she forgive the devastating wrong done to her family decades ago?  And will Shelby fight for what she wants, only to lose it all in the end?

Oh, the end.  Yeah...didn't see that coming.  But wow, what an ending!  I loved the story, I yearned for the setting, and I was a bit envious of the memories Shelby had of her grandparents.  The book had me playing my favorite reading game called "Just One More Chapter" into the wee hours of the morning.

And the person who warns us not to work with animals or small children?  Lila, Elizabeth and Tabitha pretty much hijack your heart from the moment you meet.  I received a copy of "Where She Belongs" in exchange for an honest review.

Four and a half stars.
